We visit the most famous and
exciting places during this round trip in eastern Venezuela. Canaima with
the Angel Falls, the highest waterfall in the world, the animal rich Orinoco
delta and the best Caribbean beaches like Playa Medina!
This round trip is organized by
Kreis deutschsprachiger Posadas mit Tourangeboten.
Tag 1: Maiquetia (Caracas) - Ciudad Bolivar (-, -, -)
Flight to Ciudad Bolivar, welcome cocktail, briefing and overnight
stay at Posada La Casita in Ciudad Bolivar.
Tag 2: Ciudad Bolivar - Canaima (F, M, A)
In the morning we leave Ciudad Bolivar with a small 5 seat Cessna.
During the flight we have a fantastic view above the Guri lake, the Caroni
river and the Gran Sabana. After arrival in Canaima we cross the famous
Canaima lagoon with a dugout. This lagoon is fed by five waterfalls and
is also a great photo opportunity. In the afternoon we walk behind the
impressive Salto Sapo. We need bathing suits because we will get wet!
Overnight stay is in beds opposite the Canaima lagoon. Here we also get
a warm dinner.
Tag 3: Canaima - Angel Fall (F, M, A)
Today we drive up the Carrao river heading the the Angel Falls. Water
level permitting it takes about 4 hours. In dry season the guides have
to push the dugout along the rocks. We get an incredible beautiful view
of the Auyan Tepui inside the devils canyon. Afterwards we walk about 90
minutes to a viewpoint of the Angel Falls. It is a great feeling
standing below the highest waterfall in the world. At lunch time we get
fried chicken at the banks of hte Carrao river. The overnight stay is in
hammocks with view to the Angel Falls.
Tag 4: Angel Falls - Ciudad Bolivar (F, M, -)
After breakfast is the last opportunity for a morning picture of the
Angel Falls. Afterwards we turn back to Canaima and take the plane back
to Ciudad Bolivar. The overnight stay is again at Posada La Casita.
Tag 5: Ciudad Bolivar- Tucupita - Orinoco delta (F, M, A)
Very early in morning we drive from Ciudad Bolivar to Tucupita, the
capital of state Delta Amacuro. A highlight is the overnight stay at the
swimming comfort hotel "Flotel Warao" in the lonely river arm "Cano
Madre vieja" among the Orinoco delta. This Flotel came from a fantastic
idea. The base is a catamaran with the hotel on top made of wood. Huge
windows only covered by gaze give a crazy view to untouched nature and
the play of the dolphins and otter. Pickup is at the harbor of Caigual.
The first trip by boat impresses immediately. It is possible to see
water hyacinthine, sweet water dolphins (toninos), giant otter, water
turtles and many snakes, maybe an anaconda. The excursion in the
afternoon is in canoes.
Tag 6: Orinoco delta (F, M, A)
A big animal tours starts early in the morning. We navigate down a
main river of the Orinoco river and have uncounted opportunities to
watch the wonder of the fauna. These plant rich banks we see Howler- and
Capuchin-monkeys running. The dolphins will guide our boat and we can
watch crowds of birds. Lunch is at a shadow place in middle of the
delta. In the afternoon we can visit a typical village of the local
Warao Indigenas. Before we return to our Flotel, we fish some Piranhas
for dinner. Piranhas are known as Caribe in Venezuela.
Tag 7: Orinoco delta - Carupano (F, -, -)
This day we start at dawn, the best time to watch the animals close
to the Flotel. We cross a nearby lagoon and will see a lot of animals
very closely.
After breakfast we start another tour through the narrow mangrove
canals. Again we can watch and tape new species animals. The tour ends
at the harbor where our car is waiting to take us to the Caribeean coast
to Carupano.
Tag 8: Carupano (F, M, -)
Today we discover the untouched Paria peninsula, where the time stopped one-hundred years ago. To heat our senses, as the phase says, we visit the thermal springs of El Pilar. This melting pot of nature with its sulfur ambient reminds us of Faust "Witch hubbub". We get a late breakfast and boil eggs. Afterwards we visit the buffalo ranch "Rio de Agua" in the savannah of the gulf of Paria. Here we watch the water buffalos in the mud and the savannah with its birds from a viewpoint. Who want can taste fresh buffalo cheese. Then we follow the beautiful roadt via Bohordal through primary forest with immense bamboos grove until we reach "Playa Medina". Here we rest and spend some time. In the afternoon we visit the cacao hacienda "Bukare", where the owner explains how to increase the quality of cacao in a natural way. We are invited to learn the secrets of making cacao. On our way back to Posada Nena we visit the colonial village Rio Caribe and drive along the beautiful coast road.
Extending the stay at the beach and Posada Nena is always possible.
Tag 9: Carupano - Caracas (F, -, -)
After breakfast we drive to the airport of Carupano and take the
plane to Maiquetia to get the international flight in time.
